Working with Teens

Teens deserve therapy that meets them where they're at.

Hands-on . Relatable . Flexible . Real.

At Play Lab Counseling, we offer a space where youth can show up authentically and build the emotional tools they need to navigate the world with confidence.

Adolescence is a time of intense change — emotionally, socially, and neurologically. Teens are building identity, navigating relationships, and learning how to manage feelings in a world that often expects them to act like adults before they’re ready. At Play Lab Counseling, we offer a space where teens can slow down, reconnect with themselves, and explore what they’re experiencing through intentional and developmentally attuned play therapy interventions.

While many people think play therapy is only for young children, the science tells a different story: teens significantly benefit from experiential, expressive, and movement‑based approaches. These methods help bypass the pressure to “talk about it,” allowing teens to express themselves in ways that feel natural, genuine, and safe.

Our work with teens is collaborative and respectful. We don’t force insight or push for disclosure. Instead, we create opportunities for exploration — small experiments, creative tasks, and embodied experiences that help teens discover what feels right for them. Whether we’re using sandtray to map out internal conflict, movement to release tension, or expressive play to explore identity, every intervention is chosen with intention and grounded in the science of how teens learn, grow, and heal.
